Scoli Acosta - Untitled

Scoli Acosta

Influenced by his love of literature and his extensive travels, Scoli Acosta (b. 1973 Los Angeles) translates his personal experience of the world into poetic mixed-media works in which images and objects function like the words and phrases of a narrative. The worlds that he creates are simultaneously familiar and foreign. Their stories are not dependable and may shift radically at any moment, as in the space of a dream. These fluid narratives can be traced through Acosta’s drawings, which provide a unique vocabulary that informs his installations, videos, and performances. Like an outline that serves as the foundation for a written text, the drawings give rise to an overarching story that is nearly Borgesian in its intricacy, dynamically bridging the various approaches and tactics of the artist’s broader practice.
