Patricia Fernandez was born in Burgos, Spain. She studied in Saint Martins College of Art, The University of California, Los Angeles, and in 2010 received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Fernandez applies an archeological approach to the family archive in order to investigate the inaccuracy of our inherited memories and the subjectivity of personal experience. Through a complex network of forms and information she seeks to investigate histories and literatures forgotten, misplaced, or buried.
She is a Joan Mitchell Grant recipient (2010) and a California Community Foundation Fellow (2011). Fernandez was recently awarded the France Los Angeles Exchange Grant to Bordeaux and a CCI Investing in Artists Grant for tools and equipment (2012). Her work has been exhibited at Clifton Benevento and the CUE Foundation in New York, ltd los angeles and the Hammer Museum, in Los Angeles.
