Brigitte Engler

Born and raised in Paris, artist Brigitte Engler studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and at the Whitney ISP in New-York. Her work has been exhibited in Italy in a museum show “Anniottanta”curated by Corrado Levi, in Germany at the Barbara Gross gallery curated by Kiki Smith, in New-York at the Richard Anderson gallery in a one person show reviewed in Art in America, group shows curated by Nancy Spero. Her work was exhibited in “City Folks, a show that deals with Folk art references in contemporary art, co-curated by Carlo McCormick and Aaron Rose at the Holly Solomon gallery in 1995. Her first solo show at PØST in LA in 1999 was written up by filmmaker/writer/art critic Chris Kraus in Art&Text. Engler had a one person show in Paris at the Gordon Pym&Fils in 2010. On the occasion of the show, a catalogue was published with an essay by the writer Emmanuelle Guattari. Her prints and drawings were published in Pataphysics magazine and Columbia College Made magazine in collaboration with writer/editor of Semiotext(e) Sylvère Lotringer.  Brigitte Engler has written articles on contemporary artists for French magazines and the New-York based PAPER magazine.
